Top Ten Lip Balms Under $10

Its no secret that I love lip products, especially lip balms. Here is a list of my top ten (in no particular order), the ones that I've purchased over and over, or ones that I've just fallen absolutely in love with.

1. Rosebud Perfume Co. Salve $7 for .8 oz tin, $6 for .5 oz tube
There is a reason that this comes up on almost everyone's favorites list-its THAT good! The multipurpose salve comes in a variety of rose based flavors and is still made from the original 122 year old recipe. My favorites are the original, strawberry, and minted. Its a thick, petrolatum based salve that I use on my lips as a night treatment, cuticles, and elbows when they're dry, though there's a whole list of things you can do with this stuff.

2. Carmax $1.79- $3.00 comes in .15 oz tube, .35 oz soft tube or .25 oz jar
Oh the one that started it all-Carmax. Since I was a kid they've come out with several different flavors, including cherry, strawberry, mint, lime, vanilla, and pomegranate but they all do the same thing-keep those lips moisturized! Carmax is also petrolatum based, with lanolin and cocoa seed butter, and the price point is low enough that you can have several laying around. The protecting Carmax has an SPF of 15-you can't forget your lips need protection from the sun too!

3. Burt's Bees Original Beeswax Lip Balm  $3.29 for .15 oz tube or $3.99 for .3 oz tin
This cooling, tingling, 100% natural balm is another one that has made many people's favorites list and its easy to see why. Burt's really keeps lips feeling soft and refreshed, is easily found at most drugstores, has an almost addicting quality that will make you want to reapply often, whether you need it or not, and sits comfortably on the lips without an overwhelming honey or mint scent.

4. Nivea Lip Balms $2.99 for .17 oz
This is a brand that I have grown up with, living in Germany, but I was more familiar with the lotion than the lip balm. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked this line-they have a lot of different choices, both in flavor and type of effect, with everything from high moisture to shimmer to fruity with sheer color. The current ones I'm carrying around are the Kiss of Milk & Honey and Mint & Minerals.

5. Treat Old Fashioned Flavored Jumbo Lip Balm $10 for .5 oz
This large lip balm is from Treat Beauty and it is over three times larger than your standard lip balm, 100% natural, cruetly free and eco-friendly I can swipe both of my lips at once with this stick and its also touted as a multitasker so you can use it on other areas that are dry. The ingredient list is short: coconut oil, beeswax, kosher vegetable glycerin, shea butter, and flavor. It comes in five different flavors: Banana Cream, Soft Candy Pink Buttercream, Soft Candy Vanilla Buttercream, Coconut Cream and Peaches & Cream.

6. Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 $7.50 for .25 oz
This is one started out as being for my husband but I found myself stealing it so often from him that I just bought my own. The smooth salve like balm comes in five varies: Grapefruit & Ginger, Black Tea & Blackberry, Natural Mint & Shea Butter, Lemon & Chamomile, Shea Butter & Vitamin E and leaves no shine on your lips but keeps them soft and protected from wind and sun.

7. Sun Bum Sunscreen Lip Balm with SPF 30 $3.99 for .15 oz
This one is great for when you're spending time outdoors because the SPF is so high and comes in six different tropical flavors: Banana, Coconut, Key Lime, Mango, Pink Guava, and Pomegranate so you're bound to find something you like. The aloe and vitamin E keep your lips from getting chapped or help get them back into shape.

8. Maybelline Baby Lips $3.49 for .15 oz
These took the beauty world by storm a few years ago and have since branched out with three different lines: original, neon, and medicated. The original have a SPF of 20, all claim at least 8 hour hydration, and the medicated has eucalyptus. Some have a very sheer wash of color and others just make your lips shiny, but the biggest thing is how moisturizing and slick they are.

9. Labello Classic Care $3-5 .17oz
Labello and Nivea share the same parent company and a lot of their lip products are similar though the Labello Classic Care is slicker, more emollient, and has a soft, pleasant scent that you don't smell once on the lips. It has a ridiculous wear time, still feeling the product 4-5 hours later which for a chapstick is amazing. You can find this on amazon or ebay unless you get a chance to go to Europe. I usually stock up when I go back to Germany and the hardest part is choosing which ones I want from almost 30 different types.

10. The Body Shop Lip Balm in Honeymania $6 for .3 oz
This little pot holds a sweetly floral honey scent in a thick, not sticky lip balm. This is purely for moisture and is made with Community Fair Trade honey from Ethiopia.

What are your favorite lip balms?

  1. I believe that Carmen is the top one but love the European choices. If only. :(
