Every eye color has shadow color that will make it pop and for brown eyes, a popular choice is purple.
I have been working on a collection of purple shadows in different formulas and depth to give me options, for days I don't want just a neutral eye but don't have the time to go all out and crazy with color.
Avon's quad eye shadows are, I think, rather underrated. The colors are beautiful with good payoff, blend well, and at a great price point at $7 from avon.com. With these four colors- Pink Slip, Silver Plum, Jupon Rose, and Prune Argentee, you can do a whole look with all four or just two.
The Hello Kitty cosmetics are no longer carried in Sephora and I debated putting this and the Sonia Kashuk in this post, but I wanted to show the variety of color options out there so I am including them. The HK shadows are pretty chalky but the purple in the lower part of the quad is a very distinct blue based.
Here are swatches of the four Avon colors and the two left shadows of the Hello Kitty palette (L-R):
Oh Urban Decay, you've never failed me and with these two purples show up in all their glory. Fishnet is available in a single for $18 but if you love Freakshow, keep an eye out as UD likes to bring back their colors. I could go on and on about how gorgeous these two are but let me leave it at this-these eye shadows never leave me wanting more.
Sonia Kashuk's Jewel of the Eye has three purples, starting with the left mauve, almost peachy color, the middle purple has quite a bit of red in it, and the right which is rich royal purple. SK's eye shadows have a little fallout but that's because I really pack it on so that the color will stick around all day. They do blend well and the jewel toned shadows can be used with a light hand for just a touch of color or heavier for a smokey eye with a different twist.
Now for some single eye shadows in more formula options!
Starting with the pot, moving L to R: Maybelline Color Tattoo in Lavish Laavender, Lorac 3D Liquid Lustre in Amethyst, Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Shadow Pencil in Delinquent, MAC eye shadows in Violet Trance and Vile Violet.
Having different options is always helpful and the Maybelline Color Tattoos make it easy-you can use them as a base and swipe the color all over the lid or just part. I use Lavish Lavender as a base for purple and blue eye shadows, but also pack it on my lower lid and use a finger to blend it up toward the brow bone for those easy 5 min makeup days.
The Lorac 3D Lustres are basically a glitter suspended in an adhesive but this is great for a little sparkle without looking too kiddish. Use you finger with these, as a brush or q-tip will just soak up the adhesive and you'll have a hard time getting color to transfer to your lid.
Urban Decay makes another appearance, but in a pencil that you can use as just an eye liner or use for an all over lid color. Once this baby sets, its not moving but you have a small window to blend this out. Again, use your finger to move the color where you want it, the heat from your finger will give you a little more time before the product sets.
The last two-traditional eye shadows are actually what started my quest for purple eye shadow. Both are matte so I can use them as is or tab a little Vaseline over it to give them some shine. The color payoff is good and true to pan. Mine look a little worse for wear, I hadn't quite figured out how to depot MAC eye shadow nicely.
Purples can pop up anywhere so you may have to hunt a bit to find that perfect color if you have a particular shade in mind, but the because it can be a rather approachable color you'll have a lot of choices. I'll have one of may favorite ways to wear purple coming up in a tutorial this week stay tuned!

First up are some palettes that contain purples-sometimes you'll see them in neutral based palettes (like the Avon), other times you'll have a jewel tone based palette (Sonia Kashuk) and then you'll have those that have bolder, richer colors and include a nice pigmented purple (such as the Urban Decay palette).
